Kenya/ Tanzania 16 days winged safari

Visit the top reserves of Kenya and Tanzania in this safari and enjoy the breathtaking scenery at Amboseli, Masai Mara, Samburu, Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater Reserves. See the big cats catching their prey in their natural habitat in the Amboseli, Masai Mara and Samburu Reserves in Kenya, and sight large herds of animals including zebras and even wildebeests in the exquisite Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater Reserves of Tanzania. 

The highlights of this safari include 2 nights at the renowned Mount Kenya Safari Club, a visit to the 'Cradle of Mankind' at the Olduvai Gorge and looking for tree-climbing lions at Lake Manyara. Also, fly from one fabulous site to the next, to luxurious and comfortable lodges and tented camps.

Day 1 - Nairobi

On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, be transferred to the Giraffe Manor Hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 2 - Nairobi – Amboseli

Fly to Amboseli after breakfast from the Wilson Airport. On arrival, you will be transferred to the Tortilis Camp where you will spend 2 nights at its luxurious tents with the breathtaking scenery of Mt. Kilimanjaro - Africa's highest mountain. At this reserve, you will enjoy a game drive after lunch for a chance to catch animals like lions and cheetahs trying to make a kill.

Day 3 - Amboseli

Enjoy a full day of game viewing and exploration in this photographer's paradise. Catch the sight of the wide array of large herbivores in this park such as the Maasai giraffe, black rhino, lesser kudu, and the Burchell's zebra and other smaller ones such as the antelopes like the bushbuck, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles and the lovely impala.

Day 4 - Amboseli – Mount Kenya

Transfer to the airstrip for a flight back to Nairobi after breakfast; change planes and fly north to Nanyuki Airstrip. You will be met on arrival and taken to the Mount Kenya Safari Club, situated at the foot of Mt. Kenya. Spend the day of relaxing in the Club's magnificent gardens. Activities here include golf, tennis, horseback riding and swimming in the heated pool.

Day 5 - Mount Kenya

Spend the day leisurely leisure enjoying the superb facilities of the Mount Kenya Safari Club. Take in a round of golf, go horseback riding, or simply relaxing by the heated pool.

Day 6 - Mount Kenya – Samburu

Take a short flight to Samburu from the Nanyuki Airstrip in the morning. On arrival, you will be taken to Larsens Camp where you will explore the Samburu National Reserve for the next 2 nights on arrival. Situated north of the Equator, Samburu lies on the south bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River and is home to species of animals not found to the south; these include the Grevy's zebra, the reticulated giraffe and the Somali ostrich. It is also a habitat for elephants, black rhinos, lions, buffaloes, cheetahs and many antelopes. Visitors may also see the long neck gerenuk, beisa oryx, and the hunting dog.

Day 7 - Samburu National Reserve.

Spend a delightful day game viewing and exploring this beautiful terrain where wildlife abounds, especially near the Ewaso Nyiro river, which is their only source of drinking water. The River flows gently through the dry landscape sustaining life in this harsh land. Close to the park is the Shaba National Reserve where the famous conservationist George Adamson conducted his research on lions.

Day 8 - Samburu – Masai Mara

Fly in the morning down the Rift Valley into Masai Mara. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the Royal Mara Lodge for a 3-night stay. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive where for a chance to see the black-maned lions, which the reserve is famous for.

Days 9 & 10 - Masai Mara

Spend the next two days having a full day of game viewing, then taking a morning game drive followed by an afternoon relaxing around the hotel's swimming pool. While exploring this reserve, one of Kenya's finest, you may witness a lion making a kill or a leopard enjoying a meal it had dragged up the tree. The Reserve is a home to more than 60 species of animals and countless bird species, including the Masai ostrich and the long-legged Secretary bird. It is here that the great migration of the wildebeest takes place at the beginning of August.

Day 11 - Masai Mara – Serengeti

Fly to Tanzania via Nairobi after breakfast. Enjoy lunch at the Kilimanjaro Airport then fly to an airstrip in the Serengeti where on arrival, you will be taken to Kirawira Tented Camp for a 2-night stay.

Day 12- Serengeti

Enjoy the whole day exploring and viewing large herds of plains game such as the zebra, wildebeest and gazelle. Return to the camp from the game drive in the early evening hours.

Day 13-Serengeti – Ngorongoro

Drive to Ngorongoro Crater and on the way stop at Olduvai Gorge, site of the archaeological findings, where traces of prehistoric man dating back 3.5 million years were discovered. Continue on to Ngorongoro arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, go down the crater for a chance to enjoy a spectacular view of wildlife including the Big Five - the elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and leopard. The Ngorongoro Crater is also home to many bird species including the flamingo. Return to the top of the crater in the early evening.

Day 14 - Ngorongoro – Manyara

Depart in the morning for Lake Manyara driving through the lovely Tanzanian countryside and arrive at the Manyara Tree Lodge, situated on Mto wa Mbu Escarpment with a breathtaking view of the Great Rift Valley, in time for lunch. Spend the afternoon enjoying a game drive in Lake Manyara Park renown for its tree-climbing lions.

Day 15- Manyara

Enjoy the whole day game viewing and exploring in this magnificent reserve which has 5 different ecosystems - grassland, marshes, mahogany forests and thorn bush. The park provides a habitat to bird species, including water birds at the lake, and a variety of animals.

Day 16 - Manyara - Arusha - Depart

Drive to Arusha after breakfast; you will have lunch here then enjoy the afternoon at leisure. You will have a day room at Mountain Village; be transferred to the airport in the evening for your return flight.
